Fort Denison is open every day for visitors to discover Sydney’s maritime and colonial history and explore the historical landmark and its features, such as the distinctive Martello Tower – the only one of its kind to be built in Australia. You can even experience the firing of the 1 o’clock cannon.
Visitors can wander around the fort at their leisure on a self-guided tour, or take a guided tour of the island and its museum, or take a trip up the iconic Martello Tower.
Guided tours of Fort Denison are operated up to three times daily. The 30-minute tours are lead by NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service rangers, who take visitors around the island, exploring its colourful past, the distinctive Martello Tower, museum containing colonial artefacts, and other fort facilities.
Mon and Tues – 12.15pm and 2.30pm
Wed-Sun – 10.45am, 12.15pm and 2.30pm
